Representatives of Harpenden Town FC attended the Hertfordshire FA's annual Charter Standard Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 30th July and were rewarded for all their hard work over the last year with the Herts FAs Adult Charter Standard Club of the year. Harpenden was only awarded their Charter Standard Status in June 2006, which makes their success even more impressive!
Harpenden has embarked on a number of projects and initiatives over the past year to forge stronger links with the local community and promote national initiatives at a local level. The clubs most notable successes highlighted by the FA were their work with 'Lets Kick Racism Out of Football' campaign, the creation of exit routes into adult football from youth football with Harpenden Colts & Wheathampstead Wanderers. The club is always looking to engage with its local community and use football as a tool to educate, build relationships or solve local issues, please visit the clubs Website www.harpendentownfc.com for more information on past or present initiatives.
Harpenden Chairman Wynn Owen's said; "The clubs present committee has only been active for two years and has done a fantastic job turning the club around. We are now on a sound financial footing for the first time in years and are looking to push on and create a successful club both on and off the field. We recognise that this success can only be achieved by working with and including the wider local community. So to be named as Hertfordshire's premier adult club for the second year running is fantastic recognition for all the hard work the committee, players and management team have put in over the last year and proves we are moving in the right direction".
Community Development Officer Chris Gregory said; "The current Committee is searching for extra committee members and volunteers to help us deliver on our five year development plan, which includes the redevelopment of both the clubhouse and playing pitch in Rothamsted Park. The redevelopment will ensure the clubs facilities are suitable for use by the wider community particularly women and girls football, junior football and disabled users. Whilst allowing us to expand on our community coaching programme which currently includes Free schools and junior football coaching".
Finally, the club is keen to link up with more local businesses in order to achieve its community aims so any local companies wanting to be part of the clubs exciting future as one of the leading adult clubs in the county should contact the Clubs Commercial team by email on
