HTFC @ work in the Community - Sunday 9th June 2008 Harpenden Town FC players and committee happily 'did their bit' for the local community and respected charities on Sunday 8th June 2008, marshalling a waterpoint for all the hard working walkers and runners taking part in the St Albans Half Marathon 2008 - in aid of the British Heart Foundation. The HTFC contingent were at work from 8am, setting out drinks for the walkers, later followed by the runners. Due to the hot weather, we had a tough job on our hands filling the drinks quickly enough, such was the demand. We especially enjoyed handing out drinks to players Mark Hitchcock, Darren Flay and Dave Haye, and also ex-reserve manager and committee member Si Andrews, who ran extremely well despite the number of Guinesses he had taken in the night before!
Club President Wynn Owens had the job of calling in the leading runners (and walkers), with Club Secretaries Les and Frances Crabtree getting a good workout operating the bottles, and the music from their car which went down a treat with the runners (especially the Rocky tunes!)
Adam Smith (Commercial Officer and Player) led the distribution efforts of the numerous players. Special mention must go to Michael Ross who made a great effort to make sure all the good looking females had drinks!
Thanks to Chris Gregory (Football Development Officer and Player) for getting the club this opportunity. Praise to him for getting up at the crack of dawn to facilitate the race set up as well.
Well done to all the runners and walkers (the majority of whom were extremely thankful for our help) and all the HTFC people who helped out such a great event.
